Hi there! My name is Leah and I am a second year Psychology and Gender Studies student at the University of Otago. I'm originally from Melbourne but moved to the United States when I was 7, and have lived in Dallas, San Fransico, and most recently Seattle. I moved to New Zealand in 2022 and started doing Pawshake over the summer and during my studies. I took a break this past year to focus on school but I am back now that my schedule has cleared up.
I have had a passion for animals for as long as I can remember, and I have owned many weird and wonderful animals such as horses, lizards, fish, hermit crabs, dogs, a rabbit, and even a pig! I worked for a local pet store in Seattle for around 2 years where I helped numerous people with their pet-related questions and concerns. While working there, I received several certificates of knowledge regarding animal care and nutrition. I have volunteered several times at animal shelters and I've also shadowed vets at my local animal hospital. Since moving, I have missed being around animals and would love to work with them again!
I have a lot of experience with all different kinds of animals, particularly dogs, cats, and small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, and reptiles. I have pet-sat many times previously, with up to 7 dogs under my supervision at once. I am an outdoorsy and athletic person so I will have no problem keeping up with active animals. Any boundaries, restrictions, or unique needs that your pets may have will always be respected, and I will provide the best possible care while they are under my supervision. I do have my own car and full driver's license, so I am confident to drive anywhere in the Dunedin area.
I offer dog walking for 30 minutes ($15) to an hour ($20) depending on your dog's energy needs. Based on what you are comfortable with, I can walk your dog around your neighbourhood, or I can drive them to their favourite walking spots (I have a doggy seatbelt for their safety). I am also confident in my ability to walk two dogs at once. I can also work with you and your dog to teach leash manners and tricks. If you are not home often, I also offer home visits ($15 for one visit, and $25 for two visits a day). I tailor these visits to each client's needs, whether that's letting your pet outside, feeding them, or just giving them some love and attention. If you are going away for an extended amount of time, I also offer house/ pet sitting for $55 a night. I take your house and pets' security very seriously and will follow any specific instructions exactly. I can also administer topical or oral medications for your pets. During home visits or house sitting, I can do small chores such as watering plants or taking in the mail if needed.
I would love to meet you and your pets, so please feel free to reach out with any questions!
